There is a long standing tradition in our village of celebrating royal milestones from coronations to jubilees. The village hall has played its part in some of these, and was even the televisual hub for the Coronation of Her Majesty The Queen in 1953. With funding secured from The National Lottery Community Fund, we are pleased to be able to continue this tradition with our Platinum Jubilee Weekend celebrations.

The Queen’s Green Canopy
North Wootton Village Hall, in partnership with North Wootton Parish Council, has planted seven trees on land near Wootton Park on Cranmer Avenue – one for each decade of the Queen’s reign. Our first event over the Platinum Jubilee Weekend is to unveil a plaque commemorating the planting of the trees which now form part of The Queen’s Green Canopy. This will take place at 5pm.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons
Outside the Village Hall, on the evening of Thursday 2nd June, there will be a beacon lighting ceremony. North Wootton Village Hall will be joining a network of more than 1500 other beacons being lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, and UK Overseas Territories.

At 9:35pm, Piper Geoff Taylor from the City of Norwich Pipe Band will play ‘Diu Regnare’ – a unique tune especially written for the Platinum Jubilee which will be performed at beacon lighting ceremonies up and down the country.
Elaine Croker, a bugler from King’s Lynn Town Band, will play ‘Majesty’ at 9:40pm which will officially announce the lighting of the Platinum Jubilee Beacon.
The beacon will then be lit at 9:45pm to the song ‘A Life Lived With Grace’ – again being performed across beacon lighting sites as a ‘unique’ musical tribute to Her Majesty The Queen that evening, filling the world with the sound of music and song.

Platinum Jubilee Picnic On The Park – Wootton Park Association
Between 10am and 5pm, Wootton Park Association will be holding a Platinum Jubilee Picnic On The Park. There will be live music from Swervy World and Truthteller, as well as music provided by DJ Jamie Newton, DJ Neil Gotsell, DJ Mark Pearman, DJ Dan O’Dwyer and Dj Zola, as well as stalls and attractions.
Saturday 4th June 2022
Platinum Jubilee Party
Concluding the extended weekend will be a Platinum Jubilee Party between 10am and 5pm – think traditional street party, but held at the village hall for all to attend. Live music performances will take place throughout the day by Swervy World and Claire Scollay, there’ll be village fete style games to play, food and drink (including ‘The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Tart!), and we are encouraging everyone to dress for the occasion – fancy dress, union flag attire, 1950s style… you chose!
Entrance to all of the events over the Platinum Jubilee Weekend is FREE, as is the entertainment, food, and drink at the events at the Village Hall. In her Christmas Message last December, The Queen said that her Platinum Jubilee Year should be an “opportunity for people everywhere to enjoy a sense of togetherness. A chance to give thanks for the enormous changes of the last seventy years: social, scientific, and cultural. And also to look ahead with confidence.” This is an event very much for the local community, enabling us to come together, give thanks, celebrate, and look forward.
Thank you
The Platinum Jubilee Weekend would not be able to go ahead without the dedication of the Village Hall Management Committee, support from North Wootton Parish Council, and Wootton Park Association.
Last but not least, we must thank the National Lottery Community Fund – without their grant, we would not be able to make this event free for all to attend.
