North Wootton Village Hall was intending to hold a VE Day Party on Friday 8th May 2020 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the formal end of fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe. Sadly, this could not happen because of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrcitions that were in place at the time.

Now that restrictions are easing and we are cautiously emerging, events can begin going ahead once more and we are delighted to be holding a VJ Day Celebration on Sunday 15th August 2021, 10am – 4pm.

There will be food, drink, and live music; a display of wartime objects and artefacts; photos of the village and wartime stories shared by villagers; and village fete style games. We will be encouraging everyone to dress up in their 1940s finery too!

Entrance is FREE as is the entertainment, food, and drink. We would very much like this to be a community event for all to enjoy after the past year.

Deputy Mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, Cllr Lesley Bambridge, will be in attendance, and accompanying the local wartime memories will be live music – brass-studded 1930s and 1940s classics from Swervy World, and wartime hits performed by local singer Claire Scollay. Lynn Brewery have been hard at work creating a specially brewed beer for the event – “Dame Vera” – and Vintage Partyware will be providing the village fete games.

The VJ Day Celebration would not be able to go ahead without the dedication of the Village Hall Management Committee and the kind support we have received. This event is supported by Norfolk Community Foundation through Norfolk Armed Forces Covenant and the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, as well as North Wootton Parish Council.
